..Let me tell you the Scar Symmetry & Bibleblack story boys and girls. This blog/vlog post is a small teaser from last night’s gig held at Dante’s Highlight in Helsinki. The bands performing this particular night were Scar Symmetry, BibleBlack and Blackstar Halo. Unfortunately I got to the place too late to witness the Blackstar Halo gig so there will be no pics whatsoever of those guys… Sorry. But I’m still wondering how in the world I ended up shooting this gig, I’ll tell you in a bit, but first I’ll give you a small video clip from the show! Gotta love this video blogging stuff!

Right.. The background then. I haven’t been listening to Scar Symmetry since only a few days ago when I noticed that they were coming to Helsinki to rock my socks off. I checked em’ out and I instantly fell in love with their music, so I decided that I will try everything in my power to get a photo pass card for this show.. Almost every attempt failed, I couldn’t get a hold of anyone who knew anyone attached to any of the boys performing, but then suddenly my good friend and guitarist Mike from Shear called and told me the following things..

“I think that one of the Scar Symmetry Guitarists named Jonas Kjellgren has a studio of his own in Sweden, and they have a web page, maybe you’ll find some phone numbers from there”..

So I googled around and found the cellphone number to Jonas Kjellgren and I instantly called him up, and this was about 4-5 hours before the show.. He answered, and after a quick chit-chat I got my name on the list and I was in.. Awesome!

Let us all now have a peek at what Lars Palmqvist, one of the vocalists from Scar Symmetry had to say after the show…

..And what about BibleBlack, I hear a vast reader voice sadly mumbling from afar. Well of course, naturally I did a small video blog with the fronter of BibleBlack also.. This is shot right after their show, so enjoy – and you gotta love Kacper Rozanski’s eyes. Lovely!

I thought that the BibleBlack show was so awesomely cool so I even bought their t-shirt. That is something I usually do at Iron Maiden gigs, so the bible boys really had a certain impact on me. And they were also a really nice gang of dudes with great attitudes. And of course I’ll give you a teaser of the shots from their show also, enjoy mothertruckers!

I got some fabulous news just minutes ago, tonight I’m going to Dante’s Highlight in Helsinki to shoot the Scar Symmetry show. A very awesome Swedish metal act.. //Tage – The Scar Symmetry Shooter

I possess an old 70’s camera called Yashica FX-D, every once in a while I grab a hold of it and shoot some old school shots.. Only a few days ago I found the camera stuffed in the closet, had not seen it for months, and then I suddenly remembered that it was a black & white film in it almost fully framed.. So I snapped a few shots just to get it filled and I went to collect the shots from the film developers office..

When I got the pics yesterday I was quite surprised, some of those pics had been taken over a year ago and I thought I’d share the best shots from the roll with you guys.. And the thing with 70’s cameras and especially with my Yashica is that no matter what you point the lens at will look cool.. Doesn’t matter if it’s correctly exposed, sharp or even bright enough, everything just looks very vintage and cool.. And yes, this is not an opinion, it’s the truth!

And apparently I have been carrying around the Yashica at some promotional shoots last spring.. The next shot I kinda remember, it was during the Werna promo shoot in May 2009 somewhere outside Helsinki. I really love this one, in fact, I liked it so much I sent it to the band encouraging them to start using it at their myspace.. Check it out..

And the last shot is taken when I was assisting Matias Nystedt at an Absolut Vodka commercial shoot.. A school assignment if I remember it right.. Matias is also they guy who did the design for my web site…

And those were the best shots from the roll. I will definitely take up 35mm shooting again, the excitement when you get to see the pics is just priceless. Yay for old school! Have a nice day folks..

// Tage – The 35mm

Last week I hung around at Dante’s Highlight with the cam at a rocking metal show.. The bands performing were Shear and Amarantine. In this bloggy insert I’ll give you all the “good” shots from the Shear gig, later on I’ll post all the Amarantine shots…

Most of the shots in this small collection are live frames, but at the bottom you’ll also find some shots taken before the show at the Shear backstage camp. And I should probably mention that this was the first live show Shear ever have pulled off, and let me tell you – they were really good and I hope to see them again and again… And not only I loved the show, the audience seemed to really like what they witnessed. They were really rocking and looking good. They boys are awesome musicians and Alexa has a fantabulous voice. The songs are just incredible and you should definitely try out some of their tunes, found on their myspace.

Shear is a Helsinki-based progressive metal band consisted of six souls. Those are the one’s of Mike, Eerik, Lauri, Lari, Juffi and Alexa.. I’ve worked with the band earlier last fall when I shot their promotional shots. And what more.. I’ll say no more, I’ll let the shots do the talking, cliché people. I hope you’ll enjoy some of these shots and I really hope that I get to frame these boys and girl more than once.. Let the slideshow begin folks. Rock.

..And this was probably the largest set of shots I’ve ever posted as a blog insert, I hope that the dudes in Shear appreciate this one. And of course, I had to put myself on the last shot of today – why? I dunno.. It just had to be done. And you, you who got all the way down here, hopefully someone did.. To the point. This fine evening I hooked up with Ramedus and Anders Lönnfeldt for a music video meeting. We are still discussing the upcoming video for Coredust, and guess what? The script is now ready for presentation. So, tomorrow I’m headed to the Coredust training site for a briefing session, hopefully the team and the band can agree on the script cause we are shooting this thing 2 weeks from now… Lovely!

The golden day of the golden man called Oscar has passed us by and I have returned to being myself again. The wait for the ceremony has been almost endless, and now it’s suddenly gone, leaving a vast shadow of Kathryn Bigelow disarming mines and an empty scream from the unhappy Jimmy Cameron all blue in his Avatarish face.. Well, let’s not waste time on sassy intros, let’s get to the point shall we..

Yesterday was all about the Oscars. I was invited to the “svenskatalade” Radio station called Radio X3M to talk about the nominated films and an Oscar ceremony type of thing held every year within’ a group of dudes consisted of me and my dearest boys. Got that? No.. Ok, every year when it comes down to the Oscars me and a few pals arrange a fine “dinner-party” to honor the award-takers.. Every 4th year it’s my turn to host the evening, and now, as it seems, it was a “4th year” and the festivities was brought to my apartment in Helsinki. And yes, Radio X3M thought this was an interesting thing to ponder upon so they called me up inviting me to the Sunday-show called “Veckoslutskommittén”.

..We discussed everything from our ceremony to the real deal ceremony in L.A.. This year I had prepared myself very well for the night watching almost all of the necessary films nominated for Oscars, so we talked a lot about what’s what in this year’s ceremony and into whom’s houses the statuettes were about to travel. My guess was that Avatar, the blue modern imperialist 3D explosive spectacle flick, was going to rule the evening.. But no, and yes! My favorite film for the evening The Hurt Locker took the grand prizes! So very happy times.. Did not really like Avatar anyway..

..And suddenly everything changed, when I arrived to the radio channel and saw Boas for the first time I knew I had seen him before somewhere, but I couldn’t get my shit together and place the man in the pocket of memories. And then stuff occured and one question led to another and hey hey gabba.. It was all so clear to me. Boas is the bass player from The Virtanen Band. Awesome.. Anyway, that was this day’s fun fact. Both Elin and Boas were awesome characters and the show went on marvelously. I thought it was very pleasing to be on the air. More please… I’ll be happy to visit you guys again.

..And the night went on, the festivities were getting closer, the crew was arriving at my place around 8PM. I dunno why you needed to know that. Well, now you do.. I had planned the evening for the guys with a very new element for an Oscar night.. I called the thing Iron Oscar, a night where everything was about Iron Maiden and The Oscars, and of course, this match is perhaps the most perfect mismatch, but whaddayagonnado ey? It was fun.. ..So the night was all about eating good food, drinking stuff from the Maiden cellar and talking Oscar. It was an awesome night and I can’t wait until it’s my time to host the thing again in 4 years time.. Wanna know stuff about the awards or have you already gathered the info from elsewhere..? Oh, no answer.. I guess I could post a quickie.

The best picture award went to The Hurt Locker, as well as the best director award.. The best male award went to Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart, the award for the best lady role went to Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side.. And what else. Avatar did not get any great awards, although they were ranked as the most possible winners in like everything. It was a nice show and at least I was very pleased with the results, although my winner spotting qualities did not prove themselves to be perfect.. The Hurt Locker for the win my good readers! Watch it!

..And hey, if you wanna know what was on the menu. A short description yes? Yes. The Appetizers were some fish things, the main meal was the ever so obvious bloody Maiden stake and for dessert I made carrot cake.. Fantabulous!

Today I will enlighten you guys about stuff. Not quite normal stuff, but interesting stuff. I took the liberty to try out my flashes some more by shooting different stuff I found from nowhere and everywhere. And here we go. A “posting pics party” unlike any other, well, maybe I overdid the intro.. It’s not that spectacular.

And what more.. Well, I’m still very upset at Viking Line for ruining the KENT show that was supposed to happen tonight. But since the gear was suppose to arrive by boat, and the boat got stuck in the middle of the ocean, however that works, it will be no show.. So the gig was moved to this upcoming’ Sunday, and unfortunately Sunday, Kent and Tage is a very very bad match. So I guess I have to skip the Kent show, but luckily I’ll get the money back. Just got home from today’s double gig at Dante’s Highlight in Helsinki. I saw two fabulous acts tonight, Shear and Amarantine. I decided to establish a second Vlog, so now you can listen to the Synth-dude of Shear explaining stuff, this very very short story is filmed about 15 minutes before the show, and this was the very first gig by Shear.. Enjoy. I really love this video blogging stuff!

//Tage – The Dante’s Highlight lover

Tomorrow is a big day for Tage, he is returning to the stages with his camera. Yes it is true. It has been some time since I last took some live frames. But tomorrow I’ll continue my live shootings, and I bet it’ll be awesome!

The show to which I’m going is being held at Dante’s Highlight in Helsinki. I have never been to Dante’s so it will be an interesting journey.. I don’t know nothing about their lighting situation and how the overall photo situation will be..  But if you check out their web site it kinda looks promising..

The bands performing tomorrow are Amarantine and Shear. The latter ones have some great tunes and I have even worked with them before, promotional shooting, but I have never seen them gig.. So it will be a very interesting night for me.. Amarantine is a totally new act for me, I’ve tried out some of their songs at their myspace, but my experience of them ends there.. Their music sounds cool and it’ll be great for me to frame some new dudes.

And hey, everyone in Helsinki who reads this, it is a free entrance night. So please join the show, pull my sleeve and I’ll snap some rock shots of you in the audience Whatever.
