I read about 1-2 novels a year, now that’s something, ey!
So now that it is a new year, I have read a novel. I chose Kaj Korkea-aho’s novel “Se till mig som liten är”, since I was working with him on the show Space Trainees as it came out.
Kaj is most know as a comedian and for his magnificent participation in the humor-duo Pleppo Toy. But his novel isin’t in the humor genre. It is a very realistic drama telling about a guy named Kasper who falls in love and witnesses many harsh things. He cannot sleep and he is a very troubled young man. It is about being religiously narrow-minded and how our conscience can’t take too much shit. It’s about alot of things, and mostly, humoristic things are not one of them.
It took me seven days to read this thing, and what can I say. It was a good book, but not at all what I expected it to be, or not at all the storyline that I had expected. Kaj is very very good at metaphors and parables, overall, his writing skills are excellent. I didn’t get tired once at the story, but it is not a book that I would read again, it was too harsh for me. I like the easy books with happy time printed all over – or how Stockholms Mob-life works. But this does not mean that the novel is bad, not at all, it was great reading from start to finish, although it was, as I said, very heavy. And that is not heavy metal.
(This is the cover, if you hadn’t figured that out, stupid)
(Kaj left me a note in the book – it says – “till tage, den bästa kameramannen väster om seinäjoki” – Now that’s some achievement)
